Pinzon Stainless-Steel Mandoline Review

Pinzon Stainless-Steel Mandoline
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this as a gold box item, thankfully, because otherwise I would have returned it. All I use it for is to slice onions thinly. I've used the straight blade less than 10 times and it is already dull. I read the reviews for the previous Pinzon mandoline which were universally terrible but I also read that Amazon had taken that model off the market and replaced it with this one which was supposed to be much better but my complaint is the same as the other model. Also the slices get stuck in the machine. I had better luck with my plastic V-slicer. I gave the mandoline 2 stars because it does have a lot of attachments and is easy to use but it is difficult to clean and doesn't serve its main purpose, to slice!
Update 2/29/08: I now absolutely hate this product. The straight blade has completely dulled. The food slices get caught under the mandoline by the blades that are turned to dice the food rather than slip out to the bowl or plate underneath. Make sure you use the food holder to slice because the blade is so dull, the food slips and you will get cut. This mandoline is going in the trash. I won't even donate it because I'm afraid someone will get hurt.

Newly designed blades on Pinzon's mandoline create precise, uniform slices of fruits or vegetables, making food prep a breeze. The set includes 4 blade attachments for waved, rough, fine, and smooth cuts. An easy-grip side knob adjusts cutting thickness, so making quick changes and maintaining control is a snap. Blades slide easily into and out of the side slot, making quick work of all slicing jobs. The mandoline is constructed of durable 18/10 stainless steel with a sturdy plastic knob and is best cared for with hand washing. It measures 20-3/4 inches long by 8-1/4 inches wide, and easily stores flat in a drawer.

Zyliss Easy Slice Mandolin, White Review

Zyliss Easy Slice Mandolin, White
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this mandoline to replace a ten-year-old Boerner V-slicer which I though was getting a little dull and now I'm glad I didn't throw the old one away. I use a mandoline to get consistently thin, thin slices, and the Zyliss doesn't get the job done. Cutting with the .75-mm insert yields slices that vary between paper-thin and 1/16 of an inch thick -- a very long way from .75mm. I suspect the plastic used in the frame and insert is just too flexible or too poorly supported to provide thin slices every time.
In addition the rail-guide system is cumbersome and makes it very difficult to position food for slicing.
In short, for me, this product was a waste of money and the only product I've ever ordered from Amazon that I wish I could send back.
Buy a Boerner V-slicer instead: its a better slicer and it costs...less!

World Cuisine 48297-99 Tri-Blade Plastic Spiral Vegetable Slicer Review

World Cuisine 48297-99 Tri-Blade Plastic Spiral Vegetable Slicer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
For the money this is not a bad spiral slicer considering some list for over 100 dollars. The real sticking point is the fixed forward axle for whatever you are slicing. It consists of a round hollow cutting edge with an approximate 3/8 opening. This simply means whatever you are slicing will lose a 3/8 cylinder from its center. This is accepatable with Cucumbers and Zuchini but does not leave much when slicing Carrots, Raddishes or any other small diameter veggies.
I would not recommend this if you intend to use it for these smaller veggies but for potatoes, Apples and the like it is OK.

Swissmar Borner V-Slicer Plus (V-1001), With FREE Mini Grater Review

Swissmar Borner V-Slicer Plus (V-1001), With FREE Mini Grater
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this one as a gift for my daughter. I have owned this unit for many years, and even though I have a Cuisinart food processor, this is so much faster to use and easier to clean up. I like the uniformity of slices, shredding, etc., because it makes my prepared dishes look so professional! It's also compact and easy to store, and when we traveled in the winters, this always went with us in the motorhome. Excellent product and still performing perfectly after many years. Be sure to use the hand guard to save your fingers -- blades are extremely sharp.

Kyocera CSN-202-BK Adjustable Mandolin Slicer, Black Review

Kyocera CSN-202-BK Adjustable Mandolin Slicer, Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I use my chef knives for much of my food slicing but when I need a lot of uniform slices I like to use a mandoline. I have a professional model but I was looking for something for small jobs, like a few slices of carrots, potato or garlic. I like the idea of a ceramic blade so I decided to give this one a shot.
I liked this slicer okay but it could be better built, even at this price. I decided to make a video review in order to show it in action. I hope that you find it useful. Thanks!
Note:
I guess I forgot to turn my remote mic back on for the Bron mandoline piece. Sorry about that.
