(More customer reviews)I bought my first about seven years ago and when the handle finally broke lately (from lots and lots of use), I was shocked that I had trouble finding it in the stores. Not sure why my standard cookware stores (like William Sonoma, let alone Target!) didn't carry it. I bought my original at William Sonoma. WS had a different one I bought which turned out to be useless for parmesan and it cost $8 more than the Zyliss I ultimately found and bought. It does the job for parmesan - grates finely and evenly. easy to clean. good for any of the harder cheeses and you can use it at the table. highly recommend it. I ordered it online.

KitchenAid Box Grater Review

(More customer reviews)I have to give this grater only 4 stars due to a design flaw. More on that later, but first, the good news:
-- The main reason I was so happy to find this greater is that the two main grating surfaces are COARSE and MEDIUM, not COARSE and FINE like virtually every other grater in the world. Why not more MEDIUM graters? I don't know. All I know is that I prefer to use a medium grater for most everything, and this is one of the very, very few MEDIUM graters (there's also one known as "the Greater Grater", which is pretty cool but is not as sturdy as this one and falls apart too easily.)
-- Yes, it's big. My other box grater fits comfortably *inside* this one. Which makes storing the two together rather convenient, actually. Anyway, a bigger grater means more grated cheese more quickly, right? I like the size just fine, but don't expect to stick it in the back of your silverware drawer...
-- Seems built like a tank. I'm sure it will last a long time.
-- The Empire Red color is really cool. If you don't get the red grater, you're missing out.
-- Yes, the rubber rim on the bottom *would* collect junk and be hard to clean, if I hadn't ripped it off and thrown it away immediately. Who needs it? The handle on the top is so big and sturdy, it's not like it's difficult to hold the grater in place or something... unless you like to grate cheese on top of greased glass?!?!
-- Can't comment on the tupperware catch-bin that comes with it. Seems fine, but I don't really use it as that's not how I operate.
Now for the bad news: On the first trip through the dishwasher, the tubular handle became filled with water. This water did not drain easily at all, in fact it's pretty much impossible to get out; however, just enough leaks out that you'll get grungy dishwater dripping into your grated cheese if you let it. Yuck!
However, the problem was easily rectified by two minutes with a power drill -- I just drilled a small 3/8" hole in each end of the plastic frame that's holding the handle in place. Now the water drains out just fine.
However, this is a phenomenally stupid design oversight on KitchenAid's part. Didn't they even test thing thing after a trip through the dishwasher? The handle could get water trapped in it even with hand-washing, I suppose, unless you were extraordinarily careful.
So, I would not advise you to get this grater unless you have a drill and some drill bits and don't mind making a slight modification to it after you receive it. Once the modification is complete, it's truly a great grater.

OXO Good Grips Salad Chopper and Bowl Review

(More customer reviews)I was very excited to receive this bowl and couldn't wait to put it to use. The bowl is very large size, you can't really tell from the product picture. It is a good size salad bowl. The chopper looks like a double pizza cutter. It works very well. The bowl is large enough to fix a good size salad and still have enough room to work with without spilling over.
You just fill the bowl with salad ingredients. I put in a whole gallon bag of lettuce, whole boiled eggs, slices of cheese and onions. Then proceeded to roll the chopper around the bowl. Depending on how long you chop, it will chop the ingredients pretty small. I thought that it was too much. I thought it wouldn't make an appetizing salad. Boy, was I wrong. It was delicious and easy to eat. I took the leftover salad this morning and filled a pita pocket with it. Perfect. I'm going to fix my salad with this everytime.
And just a hint from me, if you don't think you like your lettuce cut up that much, just put the other ingredients in the bowl first, chop away, and then add the lettuce last and chop a few more times.

Pampered Chef Cheese Rotary Grater Review

It works great for the medium to hard cheeses, frozen chocolate bars for chocolate shavings, veggies such as carrots, zuccini, potatoes and so forth, It's also great for finely grating nuts. I absolutley recommend this product, but buy it through the Pampered Chef website or an independent consultant so that the company has a record of your purchase in case you need the warranty.

Stainless Steel Rotary Cheese Grater Review

(More customer reviews)I received the cheese grater about a week after ordering it, which was more than acceptable for a delivery time. So far, so good. A couple things I liked and a couple I didn't.
Pros:
* It's stainless steel. By all accounts, it will last longer than a plastic unit.
* It is super simple to get apart for cleaning, there is a little latch that hold the entire this together.
* Works for right or left handed. Not a huge issue, but it's nice.
Cons:
* It's big - the overall unit is fairly large, at least compared to the ones you see in restaurants
* The cheese compartment isn't very wide, but it'll work.
* The metal seems flimsy, though this is only the handle piece, which won't have a lot of strain on it
Other thoughts:
* I'd buy this one again, as it seems better than most, though I'll need to reevaluate it in a month or 2.
Update 12/19/10 -
After a few uses I noticed that it doesn't line up quite right. What this means is that the one side of the pusher touches the drum before the other side. This causes uneven rubbing of the drum - not a big deal, but it's a bit annoying.
