(More customer reviews)I received this as a gift last Christmas. I was excited, since my wife and I love making homemade pizzas, and we already had a few things from the Pampered Chef. Surely this would be a high-quality product, right?
First off, let me say that we are not ignorant of thermodynamic properties of materials. We have never put a hot stone in water, or placed a cold stone in a hot oven. We place the stones in the cold oven and let the temperature increase gradually, and let the stone cool off with the oven.
The first time we used our new stone from TPC, I heard a pop from inside the oven. When I was putting the first pizza in the oven, I noticed a crack that separated a third of the stone from the rest of it. I emailed customer service the next day, and never received a response from TPC. Only after following up 2 weeks later did I receive a condescending reply stating that most cracks are from 'misuse' of the stone, but that if I sent the stone back they would send me a replacement. Seeing as how sending the entire stone would incur a shipping fee that comes close to buying a replacement stone at Target, I wasn't thrilled with this resolution. TPC did not agree to pay shipping when I made that request. They did suggest sending back the small fragment of stone instead of the entire thing to reduce shipping costs. I did this, and received a replacement. Two uses later, I had another cracked stone.
I am done with TPC pizza stones. They are obviously inferior in quality. Despite meticulous care and proper use, we have had 2 break on us. The second one even broke twice!! And, after my poor experience with customer service, I don't think we will be purchasing any TPC items in the future.
